小宇发现外媒多用be pregnant 和be expecting (baby/child)来报道斯嘉丽“怀孕”的消息。

说到“怀孕”的英语，大部分都能说出pregnant，但其实日常生活中，对于女性“怀孕”大多不直接说“pregnant”这个字，而都会绕着弯子说。

比如可以用最简单的方式来表达：

① She is going to have a baby.

② She is going to be a mother.

③ She is carrying a child.

这些都是"怀孕"的意思。但在很多国家中，"怀孕"这件事说得太直白时会让人觉得尴尬，所以英语里有不少关于它的委婉俚语：

④She is expecting.

完整说法是She is expecting a baby.另外，还可以用an expectant mother or father来指“即将为人母/父的人”。

⑤She has a bun in the oven.

bun/bʌn/是“包子”，oven/ˈʌv.ən/是烤箱；字面意思是“她在烤箱里烤面包”，实际上把婴儿比作面包，把子宫比作烤箱，是不是很形象生动呢？

⑥She is in the family way.

字面上是这种表达除了很委婉，还衍生一种很幽默的表达：put someone in the family way.意思是"让某人怀孕"。

⑦She is in a delicate condition.

delicate/ˈdel.ɪ.kət/作形容表示“脆弱的；娇嫩的；需要小心处理得”。delicate condition原指的是一种“微妙的形势”，也被用来委婉表示怀孕。

⑧She is eating for two.

也就是To eat for both herself and her unborn child.一人吃两个人的分量，暗示怀孕了。有点我们中文俗话说“一人吃两人补”的意思。

⑨She is about to have a blessed event.

blessed/ˈbles.ɪd/表示“神圣的；带来幸福的”。把怀孕当成一件“神圣的大事”，这种表达和我们中文的“喜事”差不多。

不过，虽然同是“怀孕”，有些人可能并没有做好准备，特别是未婚的女性在不希望的情形下怀孕时，可以说：

⑩She is in trouble.

字面上就是：她“有了”麻烦的。暗示是一种不愉快的的“意外怀孕”。

⑪She is up the duff.

duff/dʌf/作名词指“屁股、臀部”，be up the duff用于暗示意外怀孕，是一种没有计划，不太愉快的怀孕。另外，用法也比较粗俗，经常以一种冒犯的方式使用。

⑫She got knocked up.

千万要注意，这个表达很粗俗无理，类似中文的“被...搞大了肚子”，通常指女方在不希望怀孕的情况下有了孩子。

说回斯嘉丽。
