伊索寓言（中英）两则小故事

母狮和雌狐（Lioness and fox）

一头母狮与一只狐狸在闲聊自己的孩子，出于母亲的美好愿望，她们都在说自己的孩子多么健康，多么茁壮，多么美丽，多么像自己的父母。“看到我产下的小幼患，真让人高兴，”狐狸说，接着她又不怀好意地说，“但是我注意到你从未生过两胎或更多的幼息。”“没有，”母狮面无表情地回答道，“可我生下的毕竟是一只狮子。”

寓意：贵重的价值在于质，而不在于量。

A lioness and a fox were chatting about their children. Out of their mother's good wishes, they were all saying how healthy, strong, beautiful and like their parents. "It's nice to see my baby," said the fox, and then she said unkindly, "but I notice you've never had two or more babies." "no," replied the lioness expressionless, "but I gave birth to a lion after all."

Moral: valuable value lies in quality, not in quantity.

年迈的狮子和狐狸（Old lion and fox）

有一头年老的狮子，已不能凭借力量去抢夺食物了，心想只能用智取的办法才能获得更多的食物。于是，他钻进一个山洞里，躺在地上假装生病，等其他小动物走过来窥探，就把他们抓住吃了。这样，不少的动物都被狮子吃掉了。狐狸识破了狮子的诡计，远远地站在洞外，问狮子身体现在如何。狮子回答说:“很不好。”反问狐狸为什么不进洞里来。狐狸说道:“如果我没发现只有进去的脚印，没有一个出来的脚印，我也许会进洞去。”

寓意：聪明的人常常能审时度势，根据迹象预见到危险，避免不幸。

There was an old lion who could no longer rob food by strength. He thought that he could only get more food by wisdom. So he got into a cave, lay on the ground and pretended to be sick. When other small animals came to spy, he caught them and ate them. In this way, many animals were eaten by lions. The fox saw through the lion's trick, stood far outside the cave and asked how the lion's body was now. The lion replied, "very bad." he asked the fox why he didn't come into the hole. The fox said, "if I don't find only the footprints that go in and no footprints that come out, I may go into the hole."

Moral: wise people can often judge the situation, foresee danger according to signs and avoid misfortune.
