农夫和狗（Farmers and dogs）

农夫持续被风暴困在自己家里，粮草都没有了，又无法出去为自己弄食物，迫于无奈，他吃掉了绵羊。可是风暴仍继续不停，山羊也被他吃掉了。后来，风暴丝毫没减弱，他又吃掉了那耕田的牛。那些狗看见主人的所作所为，互相说道:“我们得赶紧离开这里，主人连帮他一起辛勤耕作的牛都宰了，又怎能放过我们呢?”

寓意：那些对于家人都要伤害的人，须要特别警惕。

The farmer was trapped in his house by the storm. There was no food and grass, and he couldn't go out to get food for himself. Forced by frustration, he ate the sheep. But the storm continued and he ate the goat. Later, the storm did not abate at all, and he ate the cattle. The dogs saw what their owners had done and said to each other, "we have to get out of here quickly. The owner slaughtered the cattle that helped him work hard together. How can we let us go?"

Moral: those who want to hurt their families need to be particularly vigilant.

农夫与杀死他儿子的蛇(The farmer and the snake that killed his son)

—条毒蛇趁人不备爬进农夫家，咬死了农夫的儿子。农夫非常悲痛，抓起一把斧头，气冲冲地跑到蛇洞外站着，只要蛇一出洞就砍死他。不久，蛇刚从洞里出来，农夫立即一斧头砍去，可惜没砍到蛇，却把洞旁的一块石头劈成了两半。农夫担忧后患，便恳求蛇与他和解。蛇说:“我一见那劈开的石头，就不可能对你产生好感;同样，你一见到儿子的坟墓也不会原谅我。”

寓意：深仇大恨难以和解。

A poisonous snake climbed into the farmer's house and killed the farmer's son. The farmer was very sad. He grabbed an axe and ran angrily to the outside of the snake hole to stand. As soon as the snake came out of the hole, he would cut him to death. Soon after the snake came out of the hole, the farmer immediately cut it with an axe. Unfortunately, he didn't cut the snake, but he cut a stone beside the hole in half. Worried about the future, the farmer begged the snake to reconcile with him. The snake said, "as soon as I see the split stone, I can't feel good for you; similarly, you won't forgive me as soon as you see your son's grave."

Moral: deep hatred is hard to reconcile.

农夫和冻僵的蛇(Farmers and frozen snakes)

在一个寒冷的冬天，赶集完回家的农夫在路边发现了一条冻僵了的蛇。他很可怜它，就把它放在怀里。当他身上的热气把蛇温暖以后，蛇很快苏醒了,露出了残忍的本性，给了农夫致命的伤害——咬了农夫一口。农夫临死之前说：“我竟然救了一条可怜毒蛇，就应该受到这种报应啊！”

寓意：做人一定要分清善恶，只能把援助之手伸向善良的人。对那些恶人即使仁至义尽，他们的本性也是不会改变的。

In a cold winter, the farmer who came home from the market found a frozen snake on the roadside. He felt sorry for it and put it in his arms. When the heat of his body warmed the snake, the snake soon woke up, revealed its cruel nature, and gave the farmer a fatal injury - a bite. Before he died, the farmer said, "I should be punished for saving a poor poisonous snake!"

Moral: a man must distinguish between good and evil. He can only extend his helping hand to kind people. Even if we do our utmost to the wicked, their nature will not change.

农夫和他的孩子们（The farmer and his children）

从前，有个农夫得了重病，请了好几个医生都治不好。农夫没有钱留给孩子，很担心孩子们不勤劳没有饭吃。农夫很快想了一个好办法，他把孩子们叫到了自己的床前。“孩子们，我在葡萄园里给你们埋下了很多钱。”农夫虚弱地说。说完农夫就死了，孩子们马上拿着犁头去葡萄园里翻地。第一天，他们把整个葡萄园翻了一遍，没找到。他们找了很多天，把地挖得很深，还是没找到。最后，由于土地经常耕种，他们的葡萄长得非常的好。孩子们将葡萄卖了很多钱，也懂得了父亲说的那番话的意思。

寓意：勤劳是人们的财宝。

Once upon a time, a farmer was seriously ill and couldn't be cured by several doctors. The farmer had no money for his children and was worried that the children were not hardworking and had no food to eat. The farmer quickly thought of a good idea. He called the children to his bed. "Children, I buried a lot of money for you in the vineyard," said the farmer weakly. Then the farmer died, and the children immediately went to the vineyard with their plowshares. On the first day, they went through the whole vineyard and couldn't find it. They searched for many days and dug the ground very deep, but they still couldn't find it. Finally, because the land is often cultivated, their grapes grow very well. The children sold the grapes for a lot of money and understood the meaning of what their father said.

Moral: diligence is people's treasure.

农夫和时运女神（Farmer and fortune goddess）

农夫在锄地的时候，那是一心一意，忽然，他掘到了一堆金子，这可不得了，开心坏了，自己辛勤耕作这么久，终于有了回报啊！感谢土地女神的恩赐。于是他每天给土地女神的神像献上一顶花冠。时运女神实在看不下去了，因为那金子是她放的啊。于是她就出现在农夫的面前说，朋友，礼物是我为了让你致富而特意送给你的，你凭什么就认定了是土地女神送给你的啊？一旦过些时候，那金子落在了别人手里，我敢肯定，到时候你埋怨的一定是我这个时运女神。

寓意：知恩图报固然好，但是得认清谁才是恩人。

When the farmer was hoeing, he was wholehearted. Suddenly, he dug a pile of gold. He was very happy. He worked hard for so long and finally paid off! Thank you for the gift of the land goddess. So he presented a corolla to the statue of the Earth Goddess every day. The goddess of fortune really couldn't see it anymore, because she put the gold. So she appeared in front of the farmer and said, friend, the gift was specially given to you in order to make you rich. Why do you think it was given to you by the land goddess? Once the gold falls into the hands of others after a while, I'm sure you'll blame me as the goddess of luck.

Moral: it's good to know your kindness, but you have to recognize who is the benefactor.
