I previously mentioned the novel by E. M. Forster, A Passage to India, in which the confrontation between the highly visual Westerner Adela Quested and her Oriental guests or hosts takes place in the Marabar Caves. Quested almost loses her mind as her strong visual sensitivity or bias encounters the acoustic world of the ear and the corporate non-inpidual society of the East. This is the situation in which all of us in the Fourth World are now engaged.

我先前提到过E·M·福斯特的小说《印度之旅》，书中，高度视觉化的西方人阿德拉·奎斯特德和她的东方客人或主人之间的冲突发生在马拉巴洞穴里。奎斯特德几乎失去了理智，因为她强烈的视觉敏感性或偏见遇到了耳朵的听觉世界和抱团而非个人的东方社会。这就是在第四世界我们每个人现在所面临的处境。

书面-机械人有强烈的视觉敏感性或视觉偏向，从书面-机械文化向电子文化过渡，就要反思这样的敏感性，逐渐养成听觉敏感性或联觉敏感性，理解并接受听觉世界和抱团而非个人的电子社会。

帕斯卡尔的《思想录》开篇就谈到“几何学精神与敏感性精神的区别”，据译者何兆武先生的注释，敏感性精神是指与几何学的逻辑推论方式相对立的心灵的直觉或敏感。
