建部之初的部址

外交部成立之初，分散在北京御河桥、松树胡同办公，后迁入外交部街30号。11月8日，在这里召开了成立大会。图为外交部庭院及办公楼。 图源：《建国初期的外交部》

In its early days, the Foreign Ministry had its offices at Yuheqiao and Songshu Hutong, and later moved to 30 Waijiaobu Street where its inauguration was held on 8 November 1949. The pictures show the Foreign Ministry compound and office building.

Plan of the second floor of the Foreign Ministry office building (east section), which housed offices and reception rooms. Offices were sometimes altered to serve as site for diplomatic functions.

成立大会

The Inauguration of the Foreign Ministry

1949年11月8日，外交部成立大会在外交部东楼礼堂举行，办公厅主任王炳南主持大会并在会上介绍了建部以来的工作情况。 图源：《建国初期的外交部》

On 8 November 1949, the Inauguration was held at the East Section Auditorium. Director-General of the General Office Wang Bingnan presided over the meeting and briefed on work of the Ministry since its establishment.

Premier and Foreign Minister Zhou Enlai and Vice Foreign Minister Li Ke'nong addressed the meeting.At the close of the meeting, Zhou Enlai called upon the Foreign Ministry workers to keep on learning while working and asked the Ministry to establish a new system to encourage learning.The picture shows the minutes of the meeting.
