Crested ibis is known as the “Oriental Gem”. It is believed that the elegant bird has existed for over 60 million years and is one of the oldest bird species in the world.

Due to habitat loss, the species was on the brink of extinction in the 1980s. Shaanxi Hanzhong Crested Ibis National Nature Reserve, on the southern slope of the Qinling Mountains, serves as a major habitat for the crested ibis in the wild. At present, there are over 7000 crested ibises in Shaanxi Province.

朱鹮被誉为“东方宝石”。人们相信这种优雅的鸟类已经存在了六千多万年，是世界上最古老的鸟类之一。

由于栖息地的丧失，该物种在20世纪80年代濒临灭绝。陕西汉中朱鹮国家级自然保护区位于秦岭南麓，是野生朱鹮的主要栖息地。目前，陕西省有7000多只朱鹮。
