China's sprinters stole the show at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday, with Xie Zhenye and Ge Manqi winning the men's and women's 100m finals respectively.
Xie, the 200m Asian record holder, stormed to victory in 9.97 seconds, tying his personal best and this year's Asian leading time held by Japan's Sani Brown.
Ge Manqi said, "Today's results weren't very ideal, but considering my condition this year, it has exceeded expectations."
She also mentioned that, troubled by factors like injuries, this year hasn't been easy for her, and she expressed gratitude to those who pulled her up during sleepless nights and moments of breakdown.
After the competition, when talking about her mentor, Ge Manqi choked up and tears fell. She emphasized that winning the gold medal was not possible without the support and help from the entire team.
"I've said before that hard work pays off. This year, I realized that the premise for hard work to pay off is not just inpidual effort; it's having many people behind the scenes silently helping me and supporting me."
