Century-old roundhouse hosts Hakka fashion show in Shixing, Shaoguan

On the morning of October 1st, 2023, the "Century-Old Round House: China Chic" fashion show took place in the Shixing County of Shaoguan. Attendees, including locals and tourists, found themselves immersed in the unique cultural charm of both the roundhouse and Hakka traditional attire.

Fashion enthusiasts confidently showcased a perse range of styles at the exhibition, perfectly captivating "Hakka" fashion. The event featured a rich tapestry of folk performances steeped in Hakka cultural elements, leaving the audience in awe. Among them, the Shixing Hakka nursery rhyme "Zhang Jiuling's Return to Shixing" depicted the adventures of the renowned "the Most Famous Man of Lingnan," Zhang Jiuling, as he "traveled back in time" to the town of Aizi in Shixing County.

"All the ethnic costumes on display today are exceptionally beautiful, rich in Hakka cultural elements. Celebrating our country's birthday on National Day with folk culture and the allure of national trends is a special arrangement," remarked Ms. Deng, a visitor to the event.

Shixing County is known as the "Homeland of Chinese Round House Culture," boasting 249 well-preserved round houses. The Changwei roundhouse, where the event took place, is one of the distinctive round houses in Shixing County. It was constructed in the fifth year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty and is renowned as the " Round House with the Longest Wall in China."

Between July and September this year, Shixing invited folk attire designers from across the nation to participate in an original ethnic clothing design competition. The goal was to use clothing as a medium to showcase the rich folk culture of Shixing. The competition received nearly 200 design submissions, with 20 designers receiving awards.

Among the award-winning designs, roundhouse culture, Hakka culture, Yi ethnic culture, and She ethnic culture emerged as popular themes. "I am Hakka myself, hailing from Shaoguan. Participating in this competition is my way of promoting Hakka culture," shared Deng Jiaquan, the second-prize winner, who added that the competition had ignited a wealth of inspiration for his future designs.

韶关始兴：百年围楼里上演客家时装秀

10月1日上午，2023年“百年围楼·国潮兴生”时装秀在韶关始兴罗坝长围上演。现场群众和游客置身于经历了上百年风雨的围楼里，沉浸式感受围楼和客家服饰的独特文化魅力。

展演现场，走秀表演爱好者落落大方地展示服饰，各有风范，与有着独特魅力的“客家”时装相得益彰。特色民俗表演，富含客家文化元素，亮点多多。其中，始兴客家童谣《张九龄，转始兴》叙述了“岭南第一人”张九龄“穿越”回到始兴县隘子镇的所见所闻。

“今天现场的这些民族服装都很漂亮，具有丰富的客家文化元素。在国庆节这一天，以民俗文化、国潮魅力来庆祝祖国的生日，是一个特别的安排。”游客邓女士说。

始兴县是“中国围楼文化之乡”，现存较为完好的围楼有249座，活动举办地罗坝长围是始兴县特色围楼之一，它建于清朝咸丰五年，有“中国第一长围”的美誉。

今年7月至9月间，始兴通过原创民族服饰设计大赛向全国发出邀请，希望借设计之力，以服饰为媒，展示始兴丰富的民俗文化。大赛共收到近200件设计作品，20位设计师获奖。

据了解，在获奖作品中，围楼文化、客家文化、彝族传统文化、畲族文化成热门选题。“我本身是客家人，来自韶关，来参加此次比赛也是希望能够弘扬客家文化。”大赛二等奖得主邓佳权说，这次大赛给他今后的设计带来了很多灵感。
