The design of the new AITO Wenjie M7, a range-extended electric SUV, has been registered with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. As yet unseen by the press or public, the new version will have a five-seater variant to go along with the existing six-seater model and will feature the HUAWEI ADS 2.0 driving system. An official launch is expected in September.
AITO, “Adding Intelligence to Auto,” is the EV brand created by Huawei and Seres. Seres expects the M7 to account for over 30 percent of sales this year.
YU Chengdong, CEO of smart cars for the tech giant, recently told partners and suppliers about the upgrades. He said more than 500 million yuan (US$70 million) had been spent on important safety features and emphasized the substance of the improvements, including the use of high-tensile steel.
In response to concerns about sales, Yu said that Huawei plans to create outstanding products and provide excellent customer care.
Dedicated Huawei car stores unconnected to the phone business are under construction but not just for the AITO but for collaborations with other automakers including Chery, JAC and Arcfox.
