So Many Cats!

We have sister cats

and brother cats,

father cats

and mother cats.

How come we have a dozen cats?

Here's how:

我们有猫姐妹和猫兄弟，猫爸爸和猫妈妈。

我们怎么会有十几只猫？

以下是操作方法：

We had a cat--an Only Cat.

She was a sad and lonely cat.

最初我们养了一只猫—— 仅有一只猫。

她伤感而孤独。

So when a very hungry cat came making a great din, meowing, mewing, scratching at our door, we thought this could be the very cat to make our cat a happy cat, and so we let her in--little knowing we were getting more than we had bargained for.

所以，当一只非常饥饿的猫来了，在我们的门前发出巨大的声音，喵喵叫，喵喵喵地叫，我们以为这只猫可以让我们的猫成为一只快乐的猫，所以我们让她进来了——殊不知我们得到的比我们期望的更多。

Next morning, we found that now this other cat had turned into a mother cat.

So instead of two cats we had four! No! …FIVE!!

Three little kittens very much alive:

Fluffy and Muffy and Smoke,

plus Tammy, their mammy,

and Poke--Poke,

once our Only --

now no longer lonely--Cat.

三只小猫非常活泼：

Fluffy， Muffy 和 Smoke,

加上他们的妈妈Tammy，

和Poke——Poke，

Then, a neighbor moving to another city came to chat, she said, and say goodbye.

She'd brought her cat.

She said that her cat's name was Kitty.

Then she began to cry.

后来，一个将要搬到另一个城市的邻居来道别。

她带来了她的猫。

她说她的猫叫Kitty。

然后，她哭了。

The cat was good as gold, she said.

But the cat was very old.

She said she couldn't take the cat along.

Then, about to cry again,

she quickly said goodbye again, and left.

We said, "So long."

她说，这只猫很好。

但这只猫非常老了。

她说她不能把猫带走。

然后，又要哭了，

她很快再次道别，然后离开了。

我们说：“再见。”

Then we counted our cats to see

how many cats we had now:

a very old cat named Kitty,

Fluffy and Muffy and Smoke,

plus Tammy, their mammy,

and Poke.

Did you count six?

So did we.

That's not too bad now.

我们数数看我们现在养了多少只猫：

一只名叫Kitty的老猫，

Fluffy ，Muffy 和Smoke,

加上他们的妈妈Tammy，

和Poke。

你是不是数到六？

现在情况还不错。

Last month, my little brother, Matt,

brought home such an ugly cat!

A chewed-up ear;

one eye blind.

He was so dear,

we didn't mind his looks.

But it would be a pity if he knew that he was ugly,

so we named him " Pretty."

上个月，我的弟弟Matt带回来一只那么丑的猫

被咬伤的耳朵；一只眼。

他是那么的可爱，

我们不介意他的长相。

但如果他知道自己很丑，那就太可惜了，

所以我们给他取名Pretty。

My sister, Lee, that very day took a bus ride all the way into the city.

And that night my sister, Lee, came home with--not one cat, but three!

Three frumpy, fleasy, skinny, sleazy city cats.

Now, of course, they would be getting lots of loving, petting, feeding.

That was all those cats were needing to change from skinny city cats into three plump and pretty cats.

三只油炸的、毛茸茸的、瘦骨嶙峋的、肮脏的城市猫。

当然，现在他们被照顾的很好，得到很多爱、抚摸和喂养。

这让那些瘦骨嶙峋的城市猫变的丰满漂亮。

Have I named nine cats or ten?

I think we'd better count cats again.

There are my sister's cats:

Jenny and Penny and Bloke;

Matt's ugly cat named Pretty;

a very old cat named Kitty;

Fluffy, Mufffy, and Smoke,

plus Tammy, their mammy, and Poke.

我需要给九只猫取名还是给十只猫取名？

我想我们最好再数一次。

有我妹妹带回来的猫：

Jenny ，Penny 和 Bloke；

Matt的丑猫叫Pretty；

一只名叫Kitty的老猫；

Fluffy, Mufffy, 和 Smoke，

Is that ten?

You're sure?

Well then,

there must be more--

two more--

cats not yet accounted for.

Here they are!

They followed me home

from the grocery store.

Dawn and Night.

Night's black.

Dawn's white.

还没有数完。

Dawn与Night。

Do you think we could count cats again?

What! Again?

Yes. I think we should count cats again--

just once more as we did before

and then we're through for good.

All right!

There's Dawn.

There's Night.

There are my sister's cats,

Jenny and Penny and Bloke;

plus Tammy, their mammy,

and Poke--Poke,

once our Only --

now no longer lonely--Cat.

好吧！

有Dawn与Night。

Twelve cats.

That's enough cats.

I adore cats.

But I don't want more cats.

Is that clear?

What's that I hear?

A strange meow--

don't look now--

outside the window…

十二只猫。

猫够多了。

我喜欢猫。

但我不想要更多的猫了。

明白吗？

我听到了什么？

一只奇怪的喵喵--

现在不要看--

窗外…

Oh!

What a dear little cat!

哦！多可爱的一只小猫呀！
